Social Studies Scribe - 6/8/07

Today in Social Studies the first thing we did was very simple, hand in our textbook. After this we got our tests back ( I got a 98%), and after that we had to read another article just like yesterday. This one was called “Peru Push: Do Things on Time.” If you think being 10-15 minutes late  is a horrible thing think again. The people that live in Peru are normally 30 minutes late or more and they think it is fine. Some people party there all the time. On Fridays they spend much of their day cleaning up and getting ready for a party that should be going on all weekend. But the former president (is trying to change things.) He does’t like staying out too late because lateness reflects on a negative attitude towards work and that hurts productivity. Another example of being late is when a couple or huge parties make reservations in a restaurant they never show up on time. So if some don’t show up on time and others do that could be a real mess because lets say someone does make a reservation and they show up on time. Then the cook expects them to be late so then he shows up later and the people are sitting there with nothing to eat because there is no cook! But also, if someone is in the emergency room and there is no doctor or nurse, they might die because they got no help. Also, I would think that the former president would try to be on time but he is the worst! He usually shows up 2 hours late! But Peru is trying to fix that problem and this is what I learned about Peru today.

Today in Social Studies we had a test and we had to answer about 13 multiple choice questions and then we had to match the country with the letter. One of the examples for the multiple questions was what is maize another name for? The answer to this is corn. The countrys that we needed to know were allof south America and Central America. But we didn’t have to know where the Bahamas and Bermuda are.

After we completed the test we had to read an article called “Six Migrants Die in Mexico” and “TCS Plans to Hire 5,000 in Mexico.” The article about the six migrants that died in Mexico was about the six Mexicans taht were in a truck and tons of bananas collapsed on a false floor of a tractor trailor that were smuggling the migrants in southern Mexico that killed the six people who were hidden inside a secret compartment, and it injured dozens of others. In total there were about 200 people in the secret compartment.

What I learned about the other article was that India’s largest computer provider is planning to hire 5000 workers in Mexico for the next 5 years. First 300 people will start to do tasks in or completed in India because the Rupee gained 9.2% against the dollar this year. Since the cost is rising in India this means that people are becoming less and less available and thats why people are starting to search in Latin America, because they have professionals and also reasonable costs. So then the salaries in Mexico are 30% higher than in India, but 40%-50% lower than the U.S.A. So that is what I learned today in Social Studies.

Interesting Facts And Buildings In India

Posted in Interesting Facts And Buildings In India, Uncategorized by nicholep6v on the February 25, 2007

Today we watched a movie about India, and I learned that there is over 700 languages and dilects. Also that the people do EVERYTHING in the Ganges River. For example: They take a bath in it , also they do their laundry, and they also go to the bathroom in the river too!! The Ganges is their holy river but to get into the holy river you need to go down ghats. Now how most of the time how the people get around to far distances is by train. The trains is India don’t have that much luxary. For a bed it is hard and the bed is held up by chains. They don’t even have a air conditioner. Well at least they have fans. Now i bet you think the Taj Mahal is just like a tempal or a palace. Well you are wrong! The shah of  India accually built the Taj Mahal for his wife when she died,so the Taj Mahal is a tomb! The workers started to build it in 1631 and they didn’t finish untill 1653!

In addition to my paragraph I did some extra work and found out that the tomb in the Taj Mahal is 900 feet away  from the enterence. Also the tomb is 200 feet tall and has four 138 tall minarets that rise up from all four corners that rise up from the marble plinith. The shah and his wife were married since 1612 untill his wife died and he was terrified. She died while giving berth to their 14th baby! They had 14 kids but 7 of them died along with the wife. I got this information from this website: http://www.ccds.charlotte.nc.us/history/India/02/Emoore/Emoore.htm

Science Scribe

Today in science we read in our notebooks about tendons, origins, insertion, tendonitis, and what a sprain is. If you are wondering a tendon is at one end of the bone there is a muscle attached with a connective tissue. A origin is is at the other end of the muscle and this part of the muscle can’t move. Insertion is when the side where there is muscle attached to the connective tissue can move. Also a sprain is a ligament, a tendon, or a muscle is is stretched too far. So after we read that we had to do the next page, wich was questions about the page we just read. Example: What is the difference between a ligament and a tendon? We had about 10 minutes to get as far as we can then we went over the answers. The bell was about to ring in about one minute and so really quickly Mr.Lawerance went over our homework, and that is what we did in science class today on Febuary 1, 07.

Amazing Inventions

Posted in Amazing Inventions by nicholep6v on the January 27, 2007

Did you know that people have been making inventions called the H-racer, Clever,Innespace Sea Breacher , Dino Bot, Murata Boy , and the Magic Message Mirror? Well if you haven’t then you will be amazed. Lets start with the H-Racer. To start us off it runs on hydrogen from plain tap water, and the H-Racer is six inches long. Next it ca go up to 300 feet every fuel up. The next invention I will twll you about is the Clever. Well the Clever is a mortorcycle.a compact car, and a spaceship combined! This is also good to th earth. It has three wheels, two seats, and runs on compressed natural gas. When the natural gas is burned less harmless gases comes out the in a regular car. Also the Clever can travel up to 108 miles before filling up again and,it can drive up to 80 miles per hour. This invention is really cool, it is called the Innespace Sea Breacher. It looks like a dolphin and it can jump, dive, roll, and swim underwater. The Innespace Sea Breacher can travel up 30 miles per hour, and it is six-teen feet long. Also this invention can seat two,one in the front and one in the back. To contoll this Diving Dolphin there is a joystick and that works the mechanical fins, and the foot pedals operate the tail. The Dino Bot is kind of interesting. It is like a real dinosaur that you have to take care of. The name of the Dino Bot is pleo. Well Pleo is supposed to be a baby camarasaurus. Pleo growls when he is hungery, cries when he is scared and he even gets sad when he is ignored! The Magic Message Mirror will not make your life a fairy tale but it will tell you when anyone is pulling into the driveway.

That Is Awesome!

If you haven’t heard of the IPhone it is a phone, an ipod, a computer, and a vidoe player combined. It costs up to about 500 dallors through 600 dallors. It was made but apple but there is some trouble on what to name it , because Cisco has owned rights to the name sonce 2000. So that is the big arguement. So if nothing goes wrong the IPhne will start to sell sometime in June!

Wow!

Have you ever heard of Crude Awakening? Well if you haven’t it is a article about how much oil is left in the world and alot of interesting facts. Did you know that oil is the single most important thing traded today? Also 90% of the world products run on petroleum, so when the earth runs out of oil 90% of the world products won’t run…….unless we find new ways! So the government took a estimate and they say that about 900 billion barrels of oil are not found. So also the government say that about 2.7 trillion barrels of oil are found, so 2.7 trillion + 900 billion barrels is how much oil we have left in the world! One thing I found amazing was that OPEC countries will run out of oil at about 2030, and non-OPEC countires will run out of oil at about 2015! So if you think about it we will be without oil for a long time. So lets say that we DO run out of oil, what would we do with cars? Well there is a car called the MiniCat. I also bet that you didn’t know that it was the worlds most cleanest car. This car does not run on oil it runs on compressed air. So we have that figured out for a car situation. Now all we have to do is figure out everyhing else or come up with new inventions.

Today in social studies we had a test on Saudi Arabia. It was only ten questions long. After we read an article abour Crude Awakening. Crude Awakening is about how much oil is left in the world. We also had to highlight all of the important parts in the article. Afterwords Mr.Hetherington handed back our tests. After that we did something really fun. It was a game on the smartboard. You would play like this: there would be a question like point on Jordan, then one half of the room took a turn finding the country that the smartboard asked for. If you pointed to the right country then that team would get a point. But you don’t get to go again after you answered the right answer, so it’s the other team’s turn. Then we continued to play this for the rest of the period.
